The National Service Scheme Cell started in the year 1969 in order to harness the energy of the youths in order to build the nation and use their service in the event of natural calamities, national integrity and as cultural ambassadors.
It was the vision of Mahatma Gandhi to utilize the youths for rural development. India is a country of villages but there are many socio economic problems in rural area therefore govt. of India adopted NSS scheme in colleges and universities for the using of youth for rural reconstruction. Youth are attracted by Shri. Swami Vivekananda who is the spiritual ambassadors of the country and prime motivator of large number of youths.
The main theme and motto of the NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU” Healthy Youth for Healthy India. It works for Preservation and protection of Environment, National Monuments, health and Hygiene and Rural Reconstructions.
With these aspirations National Service Scheme Cell was started in Karnatak University, Dharwad during 1969 The National Service Scheme Cell organized National Integration Camp, Youth Exchange and home stay programme, State level camps, University level leadership training camps, State level youth festival and so on. And also organizing seminar, workshops, conference on social related topics. Also under NSS Cell regular activities and camp activities in colleges and universities and create the awareness campaign on health hygiene, Water resources and environment, Population, Plantation, AIDS awareness, Plastic awareness, Tobacco and Anti drug awareness, education and also organized Sadabhavana day, youth day, international yoga day, Swacchata Pakhawada, Swacch hi Seva, Fit India, Summer Internship Programmes, Pradhan Mantri Schemes etc. organized Shramadana activities to rural people for village development.
Our Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. K. B. Gudasi who is motivator, guide, leader, regarding implementation of NSS programme Dr. A. Channappa KAS, Registrar and advisory committee guiding the proper implementation of the schemes. Dr. M. B. Dalapati Co-ordinator od NSS Cell Karnatak Univesity, Dharwad Since 2017-18 till date.

Our NSS Cell provides the students golden opportunity to enhance their knowledge to develop their personalities and to get rid of stage fear.
