Sports Section

Introduction

Sports section of Karnatak University was established during the year 1970. The department began functioning with a director of physical education and sports along with seven coaches for various disciplines.

Kreeda Bhavan

Kreeda Bhavan which houses the Sports Section and the Physical Education Dept. has an office, class rooms, 20 furnished rooms to accommodate sportspersons.

Training facilities such as multi-gym is available for men and women? in Kreeda Bhavan 6.30 a.m. to 8.30 a.m for men, evening session 4.00 p.m to 7.00 p.m for women and Sunday is a holiday. Indoor games facilities such as table tennis and wrestling are available. The department is equipped with advanced scientific teaching aids and apparatus for better teaching and coaching.

Outdoor facilities

Sports department also provides outdoor playing facilities for Basket ball, Table Tennis, Tennis (Two Courts), Volley ball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, indoor Badminton Court, 400 mts. Standard Track and other training gadgets.

Event Organization

Karnatak University sports section organizes competitions and selection for the students of the affiliated colleges of seven districts according to the calendar.

Incentives and cash awards for sportsmen

Karnatak University provides track suit and playing kit for sportsmen and women representing the university in all India and Inter University competitions. Cash awards are given to medalists at all India competitions are as follows:

• First Position – Rs.10,000.00
• Second Position – Rs.7,000.00
• Third Position – Rs.5,000.00
• Team events – Rs.20,000.00
