Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimarao Ramiji Ambedkar was an intellectual giant among the architects of modern India. His life and mission are a stimulating role model to many a younger generation of Independent India. His socio-economic thoughts for modern India and his struggle for an effectives social inclusive policy lent dignity to the socially deprived sections of the Indian Society. His emphasis on emancipation of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities through reservation is ever relevant to creating modern Indian society. His convictions and courage are a source of inspiration to all deprived classes and castes of India. Dr. Ambedkar was messiah figure and the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. He was a strong advocate of public institutions as the foundations of a democratic social order that can contribute to the creation and strengthening of civil society. Among the public institutions, the university has a major role not only as the centre of learning but also as setting for a new kind of social existence. Educating young minds and inculcating the spirit of social justice and equality of opportunity through the teaching of Ambedkar’s writings is a national policy. The University’s Department of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Studies has been disseminating the socio-economic and political ideologies of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and his Life and Times.
Achieving social justice, equality and political freedom that are enshrined in the Constitution of India was the vision of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar for creating a modern society in Independent India.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s vision of modern India, his quest for human rights, struggle for social emancipation, upliftment of the downtrodden and their liberation from social evils, his emphasis on liberating Indian women from the Hindu orthodox society are enshrined in his writings. The Centre endeavors to prepare the young minds to fulfill the vision of Ambedkar with a missionary zeal.
